NAHETS-Rod Gamble

Rodney B. Gamble

Vice President and General Manager, Aggregates & Asphalt Division, Cemex

With more than 25 years of experience in the construction materials and highway construction industries, Rodney Gamble is a recognized expert on construction management and safety..Currently he serves as the vice president and general manager of aggregate and asphalt operations for CEMEX, based in Phoenix, Ariz.

Prior to Cemex, Mr. Gamble served as vice president of operations and eastern United States regional president for Summit Materials, LLC. He also worked with Rinker Materials as president of the concrete pipe division and manager of the mid-Atlantic and New England regions. Mr. Gamble also was employed with the Rogers Group, the largest privately held aggregate supplier in the United States in a variety of ascending sales, operations, and general management roles.

Mr. Gamble has a bachelors of science in psychology from Middle Tennessee State University.  He also is a graduate of the general manager program in the Executive Education Department of Harvard Business School.

Thomas A. Hethmon

Director of the University of Utah’s Center for Mining Safety and Health Excellence

With more than 25 years of occupational experience in promoting health and safety in the industrial and construction workplace, Tom Hethmon currently serves as Western Mining Presidential Endowed Chair in Mine Safety, associate professor, and director of the Center for Mining Safety & Health Excellence in the University of Utah, Department of Mining Engineering. He also is an adjunct faculty member in the University of Utah, School of Medicine, and principal of Hethmon & Associates LLC, a global consultancy supporting companies pursuing the optimization of systems, leadership and culture.

In addition to his capacity as Associate Professor of Mining Engineering at the University of Utah, Mr. Hethmon is also the principal of Hethmon Associates LLC, providing organizational and management consultation to clients on a global basis.

Starting his career with Mobil Oil Corporation, Mr. Hethmon went on to serve as the director of occupational health and safety for Phelps Dodge Corporation, vice president of safety and occupational health for Rinker Materials Corporation, senior vice president of health, safety and environment for Dyno Nobel Corporation and even working to set standards in healthy, safe working environments, in more than 30 countries.

With an educational background in health sciences and industrial hygiene, Mr. Hethmon is a distinguished member of the CDC, NIOSH National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA), Mining Sector Advisory Board, and an instructor for AIHA, AIHCE Professional Development Course ‘Management Systems’. He has also won numerous awards, including the prestigious Highest Degree of Safety Award from the International Society of Mine Safety Professionals, and is the author of more than 70 publications, presentations and abstracts on occupational health and safety.

NAHETS-Robert F. List

Robert F. List

Senior Partner, Kolesar & Leatham/Former Nevada Governor

Former Nevada Governor Robert List now serves as senior partner of Kolesar & Leatham where he focuses primarily on public policy and government relations for corporate clients on the federal, state and local level, with a particular emphasis on energy, natural resources and finance.

Prior to his election as Governor of Nevada in 1979, Gov. List served as district attorney of Carson City and for eight years as Attorney General of Nevada. He was chairman of both the Western Governors Association and the Conference of Western Attorneys General.

With a longstanding commitment to the community, Gov. List has served on several boards of directors, such as Keystone Corporation and Nevada Taxpayers Association. In 2001, he served on President George W. Bush’s Department of the Interior transition team and he served on the finance committees for the Bush/Cheney 2000 and 2004 campaigns. He also is an active volunteer for Boy Scouts of America.

Gov. List received his bachelor of science from Utah State University and his Juris Doctor and Doctor of Law degrees from Hastings College of Law at the University of California. He is a member of the State Bar of Nevada, the Nevada State Bar Association, Society of Attorneys General Emeritus, and Past Governor’s Association and he is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and the United States Supreme Court.

Greg Prentice

Partner, Southwest Risk Management, LLC

During his 25 year insurance career, Greg Prentice has underwritten, produced, marketed, and serviced complex insurance programs for hundreds of clients including multibillion dollar construction, trucking, manufacturing and distribution firms. His experience also includes publicly traded companies, complex technology firms, international companies, professional sports franchises, public entities, developers, and property owners covering every type of construction-related risk. Mr. Prentice’s ability to relate to clients, whether on “a mine site or in a board room,” has allowed him to have a diverse, and growing book of business.

Formerly, Mr. Prentice was Arizona president at Allied North America, executive vice president and managing director of construction at Willis of Arizona, Inc., executive vice president of Aon, and national accounts underwriter at Travelers.

Mr. Prentice has a bachelor of arts degree in economics and business administration from Graceland University. He is a member of the Construction Financial Management Association, Valley of the Sun, Construction Risk & Insurance Specialist and Construction Risk Management.

NAHETS-Dr.Barry Savage

Dr. Baron (Barry) Savage, PhD

Senior Leadership Seminar Director, Battelle Memorial Institute

Dr. Baron Savage has extensive understanding of financial and business consulting and negotiating. He is an executive with broad experience in all aspects of accounting, sales and marketing, and financial management. As the director of senior leadership seminars at Battelle Memorial Institute, Dr. Savage guides senior federal, state, and local government leaders in developing synchronized defense support of civil authority policies and procedures on behalf of the Commander, United States Northern Command. In this capacity, he validates and refines consequence management planning and program development to enhance reaction time and drive efficiency improvement for military response to catastrophic natural or man-made disasters in the homeland.

While serving as the United States Air Force Academy’s Director of Strategic Language Programs Division and Assistant Professor of Chinese, he also was: a senior executive responsible for day-to-day operations for 54 courses and more than 800 students; developed student study guides, lesson plans, and testing and assessment materials; integrated current technological applications into the Chinese curriculum for course use and tutorials; and was a recognized expert in second language acquisition and cross-cultural understanding.

Dr. Savage developed and administered all Air Force Academy International programs, was successful in negotiating cost savings by establishing preferred vendor partnership relations internationally, and significantly influenced the US Air Force and Office of the Secretary of Defense’s foreign language and culture policies to meet Department of Defense requirements.

His previous positions include director of international programs with the US Air Force; director of business development at Joseph Eve & Company CPA & Management Consultants; Foreign Service officer/air attaché at the Defense Intelligence Agency and intelligence officer for the United States Air Force.

Wade Turlington

Competence Development, Volvo Construction Equipment – USA

With more than 20 years of experience in the construction equipment industry, Wade Turlington is currently the director of competence development for Volvo Construction Equipment – USA where he is responsible for overseeing all sales and operator training programs, including assessment, planning, implementation, facilitation, tracking and operations. Mr. Turlington also is responsible for demonstration, sales and assisting with feasibility studies of Volvo Advanced Operator Training Simulators in North America.

Formerly, Mr. Turlington worked with several large equipment companies in fields such as manufacturing, technical support/management, technical training, sales, and sales and operator training.

Thomas Wanamaker

Human Resources and Training Manager, STARCON International, Inc.

As human resources and training manager at STARCON International, Inc., Thomas Wanamaker is responsible for the recruitment, retention and talent development for the company’s Northern region operations, as well as the corporate training functions including: on boarding, craft training, management, supervising, and leadership development.

An accomplished leader and manager in the private and public sectors, Mr. Wanamaker drives organizational development in fast-paced, multi-cultural environments. He has developed, delivered and evaluated innovative leadership training programs for universities, the United States Army and Fortune 100 companies, including Exxon, Marathon Oil, and Corn Products Intl. providing the following: developing and implementing multi-level leadership development programs, improving curriculum and instruction delivery, recruiting and training future corporate and military leaders, and monitoring statistical information to ensure compliance.

Mr. Wanamaker’s specialties include training and development, change management, corporate mentorship, best practices, root cause analysis, evaluation, instruction, marketing, corporate alignment, measurement and tracking, in-field training and support, and presentations.

Previously, Mr. Wanamaker was a senior military instructor for the U.S. Army with the University of Illinois at Chicago Army ROTC program and has served in the U.S. Army as senior manager of the heavy equipment unit and as assistant regional manager and field recruiter.

Mr. Wanamaker’s received his executive master of business administration and certificates in business administration, business management and change management from Colorado Technical University and a bachelor of arts degree in change management with an emphasis on leadership from Chicago State University.
